The highlights from one recent SS Yongala trip with the dive club. All this footage came from only 2 dives on the Yongala. This IS TYPICAL!
Easter trip 2015, what better way to spend your long weekend than 14 dives in the outer reefs?
Found a pair of octopus hunting for mollusks and crustaceans along the reef at Lizard Island. Check out the color changing and on the fly camouflage and mimicry tactics to get away from us. ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!
Hawksbill just chilling on the SS Yongala with his ride-along friend the conche shell. Also got some sweet footage of a 3m long shark, which was either a bullshark or more likely, an oceanic blacktip (C. tilstoni or C. limbatus, impossible to tell)
Curious (or horny) Hawksbill sea turtles getting real close with divers on the SS Yongala!
A short video of 'VW' the resident QLD Grouper on the SS Yongala that is named for his size relative to a VW beetle. The JCU Dive Club doesn't condone touching the wildlife, especially when said wildlife could fit you in its mouth... the scene were the cameraman sticks his hand out was to try and give scale to the shot, the monster fish was actually still well over a meter away when it reacted violently!
